WEST LAFAYETTE BIKE SAFETY

In late 2016, the Go Greener Commission hosted a session on biking safety in West Lafayette. Numerous cyclists at that meeting expressed the need for better bicycle safety on the Harrison Bridge. During early 2017, Go Greener commissioners took this message to Tippecanoe County, Lafayette and West Lafayette streets departments, and as a result bike lanes were painted on the bridge and the West Lafayette connecting roads. Lafayette repainted their sharrow markers on the east side of the bridge. Below is a picture of freshly painted bike lanes on the Harrison Bridge connecting West Lafayette and Lafayette. Further efforts with Ben Anderson of West Lafayette’s streets department have resulted in regular sweeping of these bike lanes. We thank our local governments for responding to the community's bicyclists' wishes for better road safety.
